How often women hear compliments that they are unique, gorgeous, intelligent, wise and fabulous? Not as often as it should be. That is why women have created the special holiday–International Women’s Day, which makes every woman feel young, beautiful, gorgeous and loved!
International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March and means a lot for Slavic women. It’s a public holiday in the post-Soviet countries and symbolizes the beginning of spring. This holiday appeared as the day of struggle for the women’s rights. March 8, 1957 female workers from sewing and shoe factories gathered for a demonstration in New York. They wanted to have the equal rights with men: 10-hours working day, light and dry working space and decent wages. They also wanted to be the members of the trade union. At the same day a lot of women in New York went to the demonstrations, demanding the right to vote. In memory of those events in 1910 Clara Zetkin proposed the celebration of International Women’s Day at the International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen. During the Soviet era this holiday were widely celebrated and Slavic women always received compliments, post cards, gifts and flowers.
Nowadays Russian women can’t imagine their life without this holiday, because it makes them feel special, even if they still single and don’t have a special man to congratulate them. This day grandmothers, mothers, wives, single women and little girls are waiting for surprises.
