One of the few holidays that are celebrated by most people is Easter. Along with the New year and Happy Birthday Easter is celebrated by almost everybody. Bright Sunday is always celebrated in the spring, the date is calculated according to the lunar calendar and depends on the Great Post. This holiday exists for many hundreds of years, but still preserved traditions and customs.

History of Easter in Slavic countries
Before the advent of Christianity many people celebrated in the spring revival of nature and resurrection of Gods. There were a pagan spring holidays in Slavic countries. But with the introduction of Christianity the tradition of the celebration was rescheduled for Easter. It is celebrated since the 10th century. Easter is a day of the resurrection of Christ.

Celebration of Great Easter
People start preparations for this great holiday in advance. The week before the glorious resurrection of Christ is called Holy. People clean and prepare the house and their body. Housewives clean and wash the house. At this time people used to remove the sashes and washed the windows. The last week of Great Post is the hardest. So you need to clear your mind and spend more time in prayer.
Celebration of Easter in Slavic countries
The tradition of celebrating Easter in Russia and Ukraine is observed in nowadays too. It is a family holiday. The day starts with going to Church. There the priest reads a sermon and blesses a basket with Easter cakes and painted eggs. Then people go home and spend time at the family dinner. Even non-believers who do not attend Church, also paint eggs, bake Easter cakes and prepare delicious meals. These are the most common symbols of Easter in Slavic countries. There are special traditions that were found only in Slavic countries. For example, people visit each other’s homes and exchange by pretty painted eggs with each other. There is a game of fighting by pointed ends of the eggs. It was believed that the person whose egg remains whole, will be healthy and successful for all year.

For many people Easter is a fun holiday that symbolizes rebirth and renewal. People congratulate and kiss each other, play fun games and eat delicious food in this day.
