Beach Dress Code of Ukrainian Brides. Part 2
An explosion broke out in 1946. More precisely, two explosions broke out. On July 1, the Americans conducted nuclear tests on the Bikini Atoll, and on July 5, fashion designer Louis Rear demonstrated his new model of a bathing suit, consisting of two parts. Wishing to excite the audience, he called the novelty a fashionable word from newspapers – “bikini”. And he was not far from the truth.
Bikini (a suit, not an atoll) caused a furore in society. At that time, even dancers in the “Moulin Rouge” was considered shameful to demonstrate… the navel. And it is offered to virtuous girls to wear two small rags on a beach!
This outfit was officially banned until 1958 in Europe and America. But even after the cancellation of the ban, bikini was not legalized. When in the very first movie about James Bond – “Doctor No” – playing girlfriend of the super spy, the beauty of Ursula Andress appeared on the screen in an open swimsuit in 1962, it was much stronger than Goethe’s Faust.
The zealots of public morality could resent as much as they want, but the youth were only too glad to be able to show off and at the same time express their own to the older generation. The sexual revolution burst very incidentally, and the whole world could only aah out of astonishment.
The history of the monokini swimsuit could have ended before it started, if the designers had not picked up the name offered by the inventor of this type of bathing suit Rudy Heinrich half a century ago. His idea was ingeniously simple, but too shocking – to abandon the top of the bikini, leaving only the straps, and open the female body for the sun.
As a symbol of sexual revolution, monokini was good. But as a swimsuit, which women could not hesitate to wear, did not get accustomed – not every girl was ready to appear almost topless on the beach. As for those who dared, they did well without a monokini, preferring to sunbathe topless in panties from a bikini – shoulder straps prevented an even tan. Today monokini in its pristine form can be found only on the beach fashion shows.
Modern monokini swimsuits have preserved the main feature of the cut – the top and the bottom are connected by strips of fabric, accessories (chains, rings). Initially, it was believed that this type of swimwear can be afforded to wear only by women with the ideal figure. Models fit tightly to the body, outlining all its bends and, sadly, exposing the few extra pounds. The only one thing that monokini could hide is stretch marks on the tummy.
Later, designers learned to put the ability to visually adjust the figure in models, using different combinations of colors and special cut, using materials with elastic and flexible inserts. To improve the shape of the breast and increase its volume monokini uses the standard techniques – bodice with a compressed cup, pads for push-up, bra’s underwire, wide straps.
The stage of undress in monokini swimsuits can be different – from a completely closed tummy to a purely symbolic thin strips of cloth on it.
