TOUR GUIDE. What to see in Kharkiv (Part1)

Kharkiv can strike the tourists with ambitiousness. Now it is the second city after the capital by the population in Ukraine. Earlier, in Soviet times, Kharkiv was the capital for 15 years. And the attractions of Kharkiv already called for thousands of tourists. So here is the list of what to see in this beautiful city.

1. Sarzhin Yar

This is the yar (girder) that separates Pavlovo Field from the Mountainous region. There is also one of the Kharkov sources of mineral water. Just recently it was restored and brought to the proper view. Now you can get water, dip into the font, rest on benches or lawn. Also in Sarzhin Yar there are wonderful children’s and sports grounds.

2. The cable car

It is a walking and transport system linking Sumskaya Street (near the Gorky Park) to Pavlovo Pole (in the Sarzhinoy Yar district). Its length is almost 1.5 kilometers, and the highest point is about 30 meters. The duration of the trip is about 20 minutes.

3. Gorky Park

This is the main park of Kharkov, which covers an area of more than 130 hectares. In 2012, when the City was preparing for Euro 2012, all the old attractions were replaced by new ones and now it is a world-class amusement park that offers 40 attractions to the visitors, as well as sports and playgrounds. Gorky Park always remains a favorite vacation spot for Kharkiv residents and guests of the city.

4. Freedom Square

This is the central square of Kharkiv, it is the sixth largest square in Europe and the eleventh in the world. Its length is from 690 to 750 meters, and the area is almost 12 hectares. All the mass festivities of Kharkiv are held on Freedom Square. Also, circuses, theaters, sand and ice sculptures, a skating rink and an amusement park are often set here. And also there are often various fairs and parades.

5. Gosprom

The House of State Industry is located on the central square of Kharkov – Freedom Square. Gosprom is an architectural monument in the style of constructivism, and it is even recognized throughout the world as a symbol of this style. During the occupation of Kharkov by the Nazis, the Germans even tried to blow it up, but they only managed to break the sewage and heating system.
