Charming romantic places that attract human attention with their natural beauty and originality are in many regions of Ukraine. But one of the most popular and amazing places is the Tunnel of Love near the town of Klevan in the Rivne region. The 5-kilometer green corridor, created by trees lined up in an arch of perfect round shape, and the railway tracks in it have become a business card of tourist Volyn, the object of constant pilgrimage for couples in love and tourists. You can go for a walk to the tunnel at any time of year, but it is better in summer or autumn, when nature paints the leaves in incredible colors and shades, from green to gold and crimson. In the tunnel there is a bizarre play of light and shadow, a kind of natural effect for photos, so photographers also love this place.
The Tunnel of Love appeared on the tourist map of Ukraine about 10 years ago thanks to tourists who climbed into the thickets on the outskirts of Klevan and suddenly found themselves on a railway track hidden among the trees. The photo they took got to the social network Facebook and immediately received a lot of distrustful comments with hints of Photoshop. But the first travelers who went to see the beauty with their own eyes dispelled these doubts.
There are interesting legends connected with the tunnel. According to one of them, this green corridor existed under the Czartoryski princes, and once became a refuge for a couple of young people in love – fugitives from Klevan Castle. No less interesting is another version, about a young Polish engineer who fell in love with a girl from Klevan and built a railway directly across the forest to shorten the road from Orzhev, where he lived, to his beloved woman. Eventually, their lives diverged, and locals say that these people carried love throughout their lives.
The green tunnel has not only an unsurpassed look and color, a romantic story, but also an unusual aura, the atmosphere of a place where dreams come true and hearts unite. This aura is symbolized by a green arch, and the track on two rails is the path for two destinies. There are a number of beliefs about the tunnel and its properties. Lovers believe that a kiss in the tunnel will strengthen their love for life, and if they stand on the rails and cling to each other’s hearts, they will never part. The tunnel is popular with newlyweds, they love to hold wedding photoshoots here and even plant flowers that symbolize tender and passionate feelings. Locals say that visiting the tunnel is a good sign for anyone and advise to visit it several times a year!
