National Lasagna Day

Hi, today is July 29 and National Lasagna Day is celebrated today (in case you forgot to mark this day a foodaholic smile in your calendar, lol). Most people don’t need a special day to taste lasagna. However, 29 of July is a day designated as National Lasagna Day.

Lasagna takes its origin from Italy, but today this dish is worldwide, has many variations (including vegetarian) and is one of the most popular and beloved Italian dishes together with such food staples as pizza and spaghetti. Emilia-Romagna, the region in Italy, became the Birthplace of traditional lasagne bolognesi, made with several layers of pasta interspersed with layers of different ingredients and sauces. The very word of “lasagne” is derived from the Greek word “lasonon”, which refer to the cooking pot. Lasagna today is an oven-baked dish containing several layers of boiled (not always) lasagna, and usually some sorts of cheese, a seasoned sauce, and meat or vegetables.

Tomato, marinara or béchamel sauce, various cheeses (as mozzarella, ricotta, cottage cheese, Parmesan or Parmigiano-Reggiano – the last is considered to be a required ingredient for making a true essential lasagna) and meats (chicken, pork, ground beef or ham) and vegetables of all kinds. Lasagna is utterly impossible without garlic, onion, oregano, basil, fresh and dried herbs. You can use mushrooms, spinach, grilled eggplant or zucchini, even pumpkin or artichokes there.

Perhaps no surprise that Ukrainian ladies are super cooks, perfectly do every cooking.  They cook well because every man is hot on homey home and the homemade food as well as every man wants to return to a sweet home where home cuisine and a cordial smile of his beloved Russian wife will wait for him. Ukrainian ladies are always successful in cooking, especially when it comes to Italian (such as lasagna), American, European and even Japanese dishes.
