National Watermelon Day

Hey, tasty fans! Today is the 3rd of August and we are pleased to inform that today is National Watermelon Day! It is the right time of year to get this cool treat. Watermelon is one of the most favorite summer fruits, it is sweet and juicy. It’s not surprising that watermelon is a frequent visitor at picnics and summer cuisine. So if you would like either to indulge yourself with this delicious summer treat for dessert or to celebrate National Watermelon Day, it’s time to run for a ripe heavy watermelon right now! And for a while we in turn offer you some funny facts about watermelon.

Watermelon tastes so good, because it contains nearly 6% of sugar and 91% of water, so it is any wonder, then, that the watermelon is one of the most refreshing summer treats. It is one of the best C-rich and high-lycopene foods.

Southern Africa is considered to be the homeland of watermelon. Watermelon is also mentioned in the Bible. Watermelon was eaten by the ancient Egyptians, Israelites, and Chinese. The first recorded watermelon harvest recorded approximately 5,000 years ago in Egypt. Watermelon’s arrival to Europe is believed to have occurred in 1300–1400 A.D.

Watermelon’s official botanical species name is Citrullus Lanatus. Most closely related to watermelons are the cantaloupe, squash, cucumbers and pumpkins.

According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest watermelon in the world was grown by Lloyd Bright of Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 2005. It weighed fully 121.93 kg.
