Ukraine has wonderful opportunities for all kinds of mountain recreation. There are mountain biking, rock climbing, jet skiing, mountain hiking, horse riding, snow skiing and many other kinds. It depends on what mountains and in what part of the country you choose. You can stop on the Carpathians what are famous for its fantastic rocks and trekking tours, or you can choose the Crimean Mountains what are home for windswept mountain yayly (yayla is Crimean Tatar for “Alpine Meadow”), impressive caves and magnificent forests of pine, oak and beech. It is a lot of available trekking tours to take, so we offer a short review of routes and most memorable mountain sights.
The Valley of Ghosts
This is one of the most mysterious routes in Crimea, an excellent example of Crimean wonders. You can explore caves and passes, or bathe in clean water with silver ions. The Valley of Ghosts will bring you some new impressions. You will observe plateaus covered with multiple sinkholes. These mysterious mountains have always been popular with filmmakers. Some of classic Russian and Ukrainian movies were shot here; the various picturesque sceneries have been served as a movie landscape. And of course there are numerous local legends telling about the secrets of the Valley of Ghosts…
Gorgany
Are you fond of hiking and think that the best type of leisure is an active one? There is nothing better than experiencing the explored and unexplored paths of the Carpathian Mountains. Gorgany are considered to be the wildest and unexplored part of the Carpathians. You are waited for wild mountains covered with ancient trees, the charming waterfalls and mountain lakes. The mountain of Syvuliya is the highest point of Gorgany.
Crimean Canyons
If you have never visited the Crimean Mountains, do not hesitate. Grand Crimean Canyon is thought to be one of the real Crimean wonders. The chains of ancient monasteries, cold iced mountain lakes and magnificent peaks arouse indescribable feelings and impress even the most critical minds. Exploring paths and ravines, one can also use an aerial tram that goes from Miskhor to mountain of Ai-Petri at 1234 m above sea level. And of course there is the worldwide famous Ai-Petri wind route.
