The Most Beautiful Ukrainian Fountains

Probably August will be the hottest month of this summer in Ukraine. In such sunny and torrid days people often look for some coolness in the shadows of the trees or near the fountains. So let’s talk about the most famous and beautiful fountains that you may find in Ukraine.

 

Light and music fountain “Roshen” in Vinnitsa
Every foreigner who had seen it, says that it is even more beautiful than all European fountains (including the famous fountains of Prague and Barcelona). It is one of the youngest fountains in Ukraine (it was built in 2011) and for now stays the largest in the Europe thanks to that it is located on the Yuzhny Bug river (South Bug). The length of this fountain is almost 100 m and the frontal length of its streams reaches 140 m. The maximal height of jets is 65-70 m.

This majestic city fountain is located near the beautiful arbor and is a part of great memorial to the Victory Day. Theremin’s Fountains in KievTheremin’s fountains are probably the oldest in Kiev. This series of classic cast-iron twins-fountains was produced at the plant of French engineer Theremin in the end of 19th century. At that time these constructions were used not only like decorative but also more practically – for water supply of Kiev. The old urban legend says that if the city has such a fountain-bowl (like Theremin’s), its history will always be prosperous and happy. Maybe that is why happy number of these fountains – 7 – is preserved to the present days in Kiev.

Floating fountain “White Swan” in Dniepropetrovsk
This elegant floating construction looks like a big beautiful bird that took a seat to the water of Dnieper river near the city’s riverwalk. This light and music floating fountain was built in 2005. The “Swan” can showily “flitter” thanks to its lateral jets and the height of the central stream can reach more than 50 m.

Bakhchisaraj “Fountain Of Tears” in Crimea
This graceful masterpiece of the Oriental Art is famous in all over the world from ancient times. It was built in the middle of 18th century by the order of Crimean Khan Girey. It also called “the fountain of tears” or “Selsebil”. By the legend, it was dedicated to the Khan’s beloved, concubine (or princess) Dilara that couldn’t live in captivity and died at the prime of her youth and beauty. Disconsolate Khan gave an order to build the mausoleum of Dilara and to set there this marble fountain.

This creation of Crimean master Omer was glorified by famous poets Adam Mickiewicz and Alexander Pushkin. Nowadays many people from all the world come to Bakhchisaraj Crimea to visit Khan’s palace and see the “Fountain Of Tears”.
