Ukrainian people celebrate Independence Day!

The main and the long-awaited holiday is celebrated today in Ukraine, one of the biggest and most important not only state, but also human holiday. Today is Independence Day in Ukraine. All Ukrainian citizens celebrate this crazy awaited holiday to declare the independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. The Supreme Council of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic adopted the Act of Independence of Ukraine 22 years ago, that is considered to be the date of formation of the state of Ukraine. Up to 1991, Ukraine was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (second after Russia, so- called U.S.S.R.).

Ukraine declared its independence on August 24th, 1991. The referendum on the Act of Declaration of Independence took place on December 1st, 991. The prevailing (more than 92 %) majority voted for their native country to be separate.

This day many Ukrainian cities and towns have different celebrations including fair, concerts, fireworks, sport events, exhibitions, circuses, public markets, outdoor exhibitions and spectacles. These entertainments take place during the day until at night. Magnificent and gorgeous fireworks at night are one of the most attractive must-sees to watch. However, hand-made fairs and concerts are also worth considering and visiting. You can buy traditional ritual and souvenir Ukrainian things there, for example, embroidered towels (so-called rushnyki) and modernized version of traditional embroidered costume, national lockets, wreaths, wicker furniture, ceramic pottery and many others. Favorite choice of colors, various handmade wonders – that is perfect Ukrainian fair. Unique activities offer a huge range of entertainment – one can see and take part in Parade of Vyshyvankas, the traditional clothing containing elements of Ukrainian ethnic embroidery, and carry the large flag (a banner of 2 equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow) to show in such a way to celebrate their Independence Day. You can be guests in exhibitions of famous Ukrainian artists, take part in different competitions and enjoy the atmosphere of love and proud for young, but so beautiful country!
