Labor Day

First Monday in September? (Clue: it’s a federal holiday) So what is the question? Let’s commemorate Labor Day together!

Father: Do you know most people don’t have to work today, because it’s Labor Day.

Son: If people are not working, shouldn’t we call today ‘No-Labor Day?’

Today there is a brilliant possibility to celebrate the end of summer, commemorating Labor Day. It is a day off and what a keen delight to have a long weekend and lounge in such a day! After hard working, Monday off is like the balm for tired. People are really fond of this holiday, because what other day do they get to celebrate work instead of doing it? J And there are a lot of ideas surrounding this truly symbolic holiday how to make this date enjoyable and remembered.

What about picnic? Great idea for a true family commemorating to savor your labor. Choose a simple menu – appetizers (salsa does very well for), pasta salad for a light side dish, BBQ chicken as a solid main dish and…hmmm… peach pudding prepared with fresh peaches. I’ll bet you can’t eat it all without stopping.

For those who do not even wish to hear of cooking, grilling and all that sort of thing, there are other roads to take your time. The end of summer season gives the last chance to go on trips. Think about water playgrounds, outdoor pools, and famous beaches. Clue: if you wish to have a long weekend in the Islands or just in quiet empty place, remember the airports and highways might be overcrowded. You can’t help it – all want to have a rest (next holiday is still far off).

If the last guess has been right and dreams about last chance to lounge would have to be deferred until next Labor Day because of overcrowding, there is another brilliant idea to take your time. What about sport events? For many teams, the end of summer is the start of the NFL and the football season. In fact, the football season starts on Labor Day; so many football teams play their first game of the season during Labor Day weekend. There are also a wide variety of other special sport events.

Fairs, tours and parades can also be mentioned among the entertaining events. As you know, the first Labor Day in the USA was celebrated with a great parade in honor of the working class in New York City in 1882. So if you are fond of live music, arts and crafts, rides, carnivals, tours and atmosphere of competitions, performances and workshops, you can find the event which serves your purpose.

How do you celebrate the last holiday of the summer?
