Hi everybody! Can you remember the last time you got the letter? The real letter, hand written, on paper which had its own soul? Such letters were written at a time of heightened emotions and great care as well. Would it be impossible without post services? Think it certainly wouldn’t. So, today is October, 9th, and each year World Post day happens on this date. Would like to know more?
Post Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s establishment. It was created in Bern, Switzerland, in 1874. The Universal Postal Union on the Congress that held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969, announced the establishment of World Post Day, in order to emphasize the role of postal services in the world and a possibility to connect with anyone free and personally. Especially it concerns a privacy of correspondence. It is considered to be a federal crime (and up even to 10 years in prison and about a $250,000 fine) to hide, keep or open other peoples’ mail without their permission.
Post is believed to be one of the oldest ways of communication in the world, and then postal services are an integral part of people’s daily life. In fact, back to the history, postal services worked occasionally, the mails were brought by hand and were very irregular between cities and counties. Only in 17th century many countries set up their own national postage systems which activities were regulated by the agreements on rules of mail exchanges. People sent and received letters up to the end of XX century through postal services; we send or receive parcels through it, and the Internet and web mails have already moved postal services according to their original meaning. But we use the very it in everyday life from the beginning. From our early youth we write letters to Santa, telling him about our dreams and hopes. Young girls dreaming about love write “Letters to Juliet”, the main character in “Romeo and Juliet” play by William Shakespeare. Yes, it is just a legend, and all such letters are typically answered by the hired “secretaries of Juliet”, but how much hoping and touching these letters are!
