Fire, anvils and hammers could be seen last three days at Blacksmith Festival “Iron Lion-2013” held at Arsenalna Square, Lviv, to showcase the ancient craft of forging and blacksmithing.

This free blacksmith festival is opened to the public to come and enjoy for a period of several days. One can come and see the involving process of forging, as all blacksmith enthusiasts are encouraged to take part in the festival. So it would be very interesting and learning experience for every person to study this process of this ancient art inside. So charming discovery is to observe the process of forging and blacksmithing while a formless piece of iron transforms into an elaborate and splendid piece of high art.

The blacksmith festival “Iron Lion” is an annual event which gathers smith masters from the whole Ukraine. It has been held in Lviv, Ukraine, as the smith craft has a long history on the territory of Ukraine. The fest participants (no matter what craft level are) with the help of anvil and hammer show the process of forging and smith work as it did over last thousands of years. Local metalworking artisans demonstrate their skills in a range of different competitions throughout the festival. Blacksmiths from all corners of the country compete with hammers and anvils to win smith prizes in various categories. They can forge almost everything – from the huge metal sculptures to iron junk jewelry pieces, including forged pieces on guests’ demands. The All-Ukrainian Festival of blacksmiths arts which traditionally takes place in Lviv with blacksmiths from all over Ukraine. Artists and musicians from different countries come at the Iron Lion Fest every year. The festival annually has an original theme and motto.
