Hello to everyone! St. Valentine’s Day passed, a lot of couples began their relationships at that romantic point, a lot of weddings occurred that date. Many Ukrainian brides have timed their wedding ceremonies on this day in order to make their wedding surely the most romantic day of the year. Nikolayev was no exception – on February, 14 there have been registered hundreds of marriages. This city may be called “The city of Brides” – here the most attractive and charming Ukrainian ladies live. Related to this is one of the most famous, scandalous ever monument – Nikolayev Lonely Bride Monument.
It should be noted that Nikolayev is deservedly called in such a way. There exist a bizarre story, truly explained this name. Since its foundation, Nikolayev was predominantly by single men (yard workers, convicts and sailors) inhabited. Being unmarried, they worked quite unproductively. So the city government decided to marry them en masse. Unmarried girls, single women and widows gathered on the city main square (Admiral’skaya) on weekends. Men and women were lined up in two rows opposite each other there and at a signal rushing off in crowds to choose a bride or a groom. After the choice was made at random, they were going to church to get married, en masse too. So that is why Nikolayev has been known as “the City of Brides”. Moreover, it has been known as the City where the most beautiful Ukrainian ladies live. Nikolayev brides always look like fashion models, are very well-groomed, are gorgeous and intelligent. So if you are looking for a charming Ukrainian bride who is easily able to blend into American and European backgrounds, Nikolayev would be the right choice to make.
So it’s not surprising that one of the most popular monuments, erected here, was devoted to the Bride. Inspired by the atmosphere of the abovementioned historical facts, Victor Y. Makushin, a famous Nikolayev artist and sculptor, the famous author of many monuments and memorials in the city of Nikolayev, designed Lonely Bride Monument. It was unveiled in 2010 and installed at the Wedding Palace. The Monument represents a young charming girl looking dreamily over the city with a sentimental expression. It is more than 2 meters high (about 7, 2 feet) and is considered to be the symbol of the feminine.
