By the way, in speaking of the kisses – have you ever thought about the most romantic spot in Ukraine? Would you like to visit it together with your charming Ukrainian bride? Without doubt it’s a bridge, the Lover’s Bridge, which is considered to be the most romantic place for lovers and couples in the whole country. It has a plenty of names – the Bridge of Lovers is often called Devil’s Bridge, the Bridge of Kisses or ever the Bridge of suicides as well. Want to know more about this mysterious and romantic place of Kiev?

Located in Mariinsky Park, the Bridge of Lovers connects the center of Kiev to the Dnieper Park. The Bridge looks heavy on locks and bows, colored ribbons and steel labels with the names inscribed. No matter what season and weather is now – here you can always see hugged lovers and the couples kissing. There is a local Kiev legend telling about the lucky sign of kissing on this bridge – the lovers to declare their love and passion there supposed to live happily ever after. So the lovers from different countries are coming to hang ribbons, knots and locks with their names on the parapet of the bridge. The locks are considered to be the symbols of everlasting eternal love, so the lovers are thought to lock their hearts into each other forever. The tradition on doing in such a way succeeded after a novel by Federico Moccia “Three meters above heaven” in 1992 was published, where Hugo and Babi, the main novel’s characters, hanged the lock in order to show their deep feelings. As a result, on the Lovers Bridge you can hardly see a free place – the locks, labels and ribbons are almost everywhere.

This is spectacular – but what had devil to do with him? Well, it’s quite simple, really. In the olden days the bridge was made of wood, and when people tried to cross it with the strong winds, the bridge was swaying about in the heavy wind. Because of people’s fear, the bridge has been known as “Devil’s Bridge”. The bridge has also another name of Bridge of suicides. Long time ago, at the beginning of XX century, it was famous as a place where the broken-hearted persons committed suicides. There is a story telling about a suicidal student who had passed away because of disappointed love. But later the season of suicides was over, and the Bridge has been known as the romantic place rather.
