Odessa Weird Monuments

Hello to everyone! Spring (and summer) is the best time for traveling, and the South of Ukraine is rightfully considered to be the very place you should come to visit. Try and you will not regret it. Ukrainian ladies are possibly the most gorgeous in the world, but Odessa brides are something special! They are absolutely positive, family-oriented, slender and feminine. They dress definitely fashionably, look like ladies and have a bright sense of humor, which is no wonder. Odessa has a strong reputation of “The City of Humor”, having its own Humor Day and Humor Carnival. So a good sense of humor would be a great deal to have in family life.

To return, however, to the Odessa sightseeing. Because of its humor component, one might argue that there are a few standard monuments there, and the rest (and definitely the most of) are weird, strange and unusual. Have you ever heard about the monument to the chair? If you haven’t, you would have a unique chance to see it in your own eyes! Opened in 1999, the monument to the 12th chair is closely connected to the world famous novel “The Twelve Chairs” by Ilf and Petrov, the residents of Odessa. It comes on the hidden treasures quest, hidden in a chair during the Revolution. But the point is that there was a set of chairs, and the treasure adventurers had to go looking for them all!
Odessa monuments are mostly dedicated to the protagonists, the main characters of the famous books, movies and ever anecdotes. Of, have you seen Odessa Mama Monument? Mama means “mother”, and a word-combination of “Odessa mama” is connected to a Yiddish song of the same name, Ukrainian originated. This monument represents a bizarre lady atop three whales, having several little babies in her arms. Famous Odessa mayors and leaders, the local “Founding Fathers” are satirically represented by these babies.
Have you the fondest wish? If so, for your heart’s desire you should visit the monument to Leonid Utesov, legendary musician. There are some urban legends, connected to this monuments, but the most wonderful concerns the monuments’…NOSE! If you sit next to the monument on the park bench and touch his nose, your fondest wish will come to pass without doubt!
