Summer goes on and it means that you may enjoy different types of rest in Ukraine. One of the most interesting recreational activities is fishing. There’s nothing like fishing in the early morning before the beginning of exhausting heat and noisy city bustle at the quiet riverbank or a lake shore, while you are listening to the birdsong and the rustle of the wind. First sun rays above the horizon foreboding the beginning of the new day will show you all the beauty of Ukrainian landscapes and you will fall in love with them as well as you did it with the beauty of Ukrainian ladies.
The season of fishing begins in Ukraine at the second half of June and continues till the late autumn. There are many water reservoirs, big and little rivers, lakes and ponds in Ukraine where you may fish. The well-known ones are the upstream of Kyiv reservoir near the village Sorockoshychi, at the upper stream of river Desna (right tributary of the Dnipro), at the fairway of Dnipro (in Kyiv district which is called Obolon) and South Bug (near the town of Nemirov), at the Kanev reservoir, at the Kosov reservoir, in Carpathian rivers, lakes and reservoirs or in the Black and Azov seas.
There also are many different artificial ponds stocked with fish in the country. Fish companies called rybkhoz (“fish farm”) will be glad to help you arrange all the process of fishing keeping the best Ukrainian traditions.
Fishing in such a place you may catch carps, crucians, pikes, catfish, river perches, trouts, grass carps, pike-perches, breams, roaches, tench, rudds, eels and many others.
Experienced fishermen will tell you many different stories about fishing, its traditions and signs. For instance, it’s said that a good biting is in the serene and cool morning with a fog. Fishermen recommend watch the birds, dogs and other animals. If they are active in the morning: fly or ran, fight, yell or bark, the fishing will be active too.
By the way, long quiet talks are also an important part of fishing. This is a way to know your partner better and to become closer. So if you invite your lady to the fishing, it may become a lucky date.
The final and indispensable part of a traditional fishing is cooking the special fish-soup called “ykha” on the campfire. This finishing chord will leave you tasty memories about this remarkable day.
So good luck to your fishing or, as it’s said in Ukraine, neither fishtail nor scale to you!
