Slacklining: an art of balance

Tightrope walking is art of keeping the balance when walking along a thin rope or wire. That kind of sport has been kept as a tradition in various countries long ago. Tightrope walking includes several types depending on kind of stuff is used – rope or wire, level of tension and hight.

The modern type of tightrope walking is called slacklining.

Slacklining is similar to tightrope walking but instead of rope or wire one uses a nylon webbing tied between two points as they can be trees or any other structures.

The tension of slackline stretching depends on performer’s skills to keep the balance and allows to make various tricks. It can be said that the technique is also depends on the tension as the tighter slackline is the more it feels like tightrope. Vise versa, the less slakline is fixed, the more it is similar to slakrope.

Slackline walking was invented by rock climbers in 80th. They used to tie the rope between tree to find the balance as it is badly needed for being a successful climber. Nowadays rock climbing and slack lining are going hand in hand with, however not every slackliner ever tried climbing.

The last worldrecord in slacklining was performed by Alexander Schulz. He walked a 375m long and about 100m high slackline which had been stretched between two giant rocks in Yangshuo, a town in the province of Guangxi.
