For each country the most important day is the Independence Day. In Ukraine this day is even more valuable due to the hard situation that has happened lately and due to the fact that people living there value their freedom more than anything else in the world.
It was historically that Ukraine wasn’t allowed to stay by itself for many years and in many situations. It was divided between various countries and was used in all possible ways. People there never were happy with this and wanted to have only one thing: to be free from anyone and live happily in their own country.
The Declaration of Independence was declared on the 1991 on the 24th of August. That was the day when Ukraine left the Soviet Union. There were hard times for the new country, but it managed to survive and turn into flourishing and strong country due to the power and union on people living there.
Nowadays, this holiday is expected impatiently by each citizen of Ukraine. In each city there is a big parade and fireworks in the evening, and what is more pleasant – people have an official day off, and have free time to visit all events that are held in the city. In the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, there is usually a military parade where everyone can see that the country is not defenseless and can stand for itself.
Besides, people tend to put on vyshyvanka this day. Ladies from Ukraine are good at hand made, and many of them can do such embroidery by themselves. Historically, this was an amulet for those who wore it. Now, of course, this is just a piece of clothes that has an important meaning for everyone who loves his or her country.
The day before the Independence Day, on the 23rd of August, there is the Day of the Flag. This holiday is less widely-celebrated, and its main meaning is in honoring the blue and yellow flag of the country.
Don’t forget to congratulate your lady with this big holiday. It is very important for her for sure, and she will be great to know that her beloved man values the freedom of her country and supports her.
